Requiem (For the Damaged) by mllemia Requiem (For the Damaged) by mllemia
“Requiem (For the Damaged)”
22” x 30”
Acrylic on wood.
-sold-

I wanted to capture the melancholy of a goddess who is destined to create for eternity, while the world responds with death, darkness, and destruction all around her.
As a creator, I relate to her, as it is sometimes difficult to create when life is sapping my energy.
The red stream of fabric in her hands represents life blood- she holds it to her chest with her right hand, as it slips through the fingers of her left.
Magic and rebirth springs from darkness.
If I can look at darkness straight in the face and find some beauty in it, then I feel it makes me stronger, little by little.

It's really moving. Your work and particularly this painting reminds me of julie heffernan's work. You both have a woman as the main subject matter and then have faces and little people and such intertwined throughout the whole painting. There is so much to look at and holds so much meaning. I think you would like her work. =)

Many people on Deviant can paint or draw beautiful women. You are very technically gifted (extra applause for using traditional art and not digital) stands out about your piece is the expression on her face. Her emotions are real; her sadness, pain and enduring torture are obvious without you having to draw a tear drop. Thank you for bringing this from your imagination, it's one of those pieces which are more than a pretty face.
